The Denver Broncos have a new quarterback. On Thursday, the team announced they had signed Teddy Bridgewater to a one-year deal worth $6 million with incentives that could push it up to $7 million.

The Denver Broncos roster is a blog that covers the Denver Broncos. It is primarily written by beat reporters and it includes news, analysis, and game recaps.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — – Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller has claimed that the Broncos’ offense has improved so much this summer that “even I could play quarterback” to anybody who would listen.

Teddy Bridgewater’s regular-season debut with the club on Sunday pleased even Miller.

“He performed an outstanding job. He was ten times better than me, or maybe eight times better “Miller smiled as he stated. “He performed an outstanding job. He was poised in the backfield, escaping some big-time sacks early in the game and converting those scrambles. Teddy wishes you a wonderful day.”

Bridgewater, who was acquired from the Carolina Panthers in April in a trade, completed 28 of 36 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns as the Broncos defeated the New York Giants 27-13 at MetLife Stadium. And, perhaps most significantly for a club that has been prone to mistakes at the quarterback position — the Broncos topped the league in both interceptions and total giveaways in 2024 — Bridgewater remained composed under duress and completed the season without a turnover.

The Broncos totaled 420 yards, scored on five of their eight possessions, had three 10-play scoring drives, and would have added another scoring drive if tight end Albert Okwuegbunam hadn’t fumbled on the Giants’ 4-yard line in the second quarter.

Bridgewater had the highest QBR in the league at 95.7. The Broncos have not won in September since 2018. Last season, it would have been their third-best offensive performance. As he went up the tunnel to the locker room, the throng of Broncos supporters who remained in the stadium until the last play serenaded Bridgewater with shouts of “Ted-dy! Ted-dy!”

“I saw a man in complete control who improvised when he needed to,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said. “A lot of them were on huge, huge plays.”

Bridgewater is a breath of fresh air for a club that has struggled to find calm and consistency under center since Peyton Manning departed following the 2015 season. Bridgewater, according to many teammates, made an emotional speech before the game, emphasizing the importance of not squandering chances.

“You could just feel it,” Miller said of the speech. “When a man isn’t faking it, you can just sense it.”

Bridgewater displayed elusiveness in the pocket, extending plays when required, in addition to his kickoff-to-final-whistle dependability. After some early errors, his ability to “keep shooting” and persuade his teammates to do the same was as crucial as any pass he delivered.

Bridgewater was often spotted on the Broncos’ bench, encouraging teammates. When KJ Hamler dropped what would have been a definite 50-yard touchdown reception on the Broncos’ opening possession of the second half, Bridgewater immediately reminded Hamler of a third-down grab for a first down four plays earlier and found him for another 22-yard reception on the following drive.

“Continue firing. We miss, I miss [tight end] Noah [Fant], Big O [Okwuegbunam] had a fumble early in the game, but the game goes on — we can’t blink “Bridgewater stated the following. “You can’t dwell on one play because we’ll be holding ourselves back in the following series.”

Bridgewater, who received one of the game balls after the victory, responded with his standard “it’s awesome” to all of the compliments. He also promised to maintain a sense of perspective.

“Continue to manage the things we can control, which are our daily hard work, the attitude we have, and how we approach each day,” Bridgewater added. “… [However], coming out as a fresh company and having a game like this means a lot. But it’s not just me… coming out on top is a fantastic feeling.”
